BETTENDORF, Iowa (AP) - Despite his call for the nation to show a “surge of support” for U.S. forces in Iraq, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Wednesday defended his five sons’ decision not to enlist.
The former Massachusetts governor said his sons were showing their support for the country by “helping get me elected.”
Romney, who did not serve in Vietnam due to his Mormon missionary work and a high draft lottery number, was posed the question by an anti-war activist after a speech in which Romney saluted a uniformed soldier in the crowd and called for donations to military support organizations…..
……..Romney noted that his middle son, 36-year-old Josh, was completing a recreational vehicle tour of all 99 Iowa counties on Wednesday and said, “I respect that and respect all those and the way they serve this great country.”
The woman who asked the question, 41-year-old Rachel Griffiths of Milan, Ill., identified herself as a member of Quad City Progressive Action for the Common Good, as well as the sister of an Army major who had served in Iraq.

Rat Says: Where are all the online democratic debate polls? The mainstream media keeps telling us how big of a lead Hillary has, I wonder why MSNBC has passed on having the people choose? How odd. Are they afraid Hillary might not score so high? Maybe a Kucinich, who ran all over the other liberals on Soldier Field, might just make an extremely strong showing. As we saw in the last debate, Hillary scolded Obama for his willingness to meet with the leaders of Iran and Syria. Yet, as we see in the video below, Hillary told Keith Olbermann that she would do the exact same thing.
Is the CFR scripting this whole election? Someone is definitely pulling some strings. When you have pundits come on Hardball and talk about how well Hillary looked, even Katie Couric might smell a rat. Advice to the Hillary camp, “no more outdoor debates.” I’m sleeping with the lights on tonight.
